Land records are her game
As an employee at a local abstract and title company for 16 years, Stacy Driscoll would visit the Register of Deeds Office at the Leavenworth County Courthouse on a day-to-day basis.
She ended up knowing the department so well that she decided to run for office and became register of deeds herself in January 2000.
Now, the elected official deals with real estate documents, mortgages, death certificates and "anything that deals with land records" on a daily basis.
"I enjoy real estate," Driscoll said. "The best part about (my job) is I like helping the people that walk through the door. I'm a people person."
Driscoll said one of the most exciting aspects of her job was being a firsthand witness to Leavenworth County's rapid growth.
"Every year it seems like there's more and more business," she said.
Recently, Driscoll's office has put in new software for the department where people can pay a monthly fee to access departmental information at a minimal expense.
She looks forward to campaigning for her position again in 2008.
Away from the office, Driscoll said she enjoys spending time at her family's lake house and working out.
If you're an early riser, you might catch her at the gym every morning at 4:30.
Driscoll also said she's prone to gamble from time to time, too. She just got back from a Las Vegas trip for her daughter's 21st birthday, which fell on 07-07-07. They didn't hit triple sevens on the slot machines, but Driscoll said she did have some luck at the blackjack table.
