Fort to celebrate Army’s birthday
Fort Leavenworth will celebrate the Army's 232nd birthday at 9 a.m. Monday, June 14, in front of Bell Hall. The celebration is open to the public.
Following Army tradition, the ceremony will include posting of the colors, playing of the national anthem and cutting of the Army birthday cake.
Cutting the cake with a saber will be acting Combined Arms Center Commander Brig. Gen. Mark O'Neill, U.S. Disciplinary Barracks Command Sgt. Major Johnnie Jones, and Pfc. Nicole Murphy, a junior enlisted soldier. In addition three soldiers will make remarks about why they are proud to be a soldier.
The U.S. Army was created on June 14, 1775.
