JV softball takes two from Tongie
The Lansing High varsity softball team received its share of the spotlight after sweeping a doubleheader from rival Tonganoxie on April 30 that lasted 22 innings.
The LHS junior varsity didn't need quite as many innings to win its games that day, but it still had plenty of drama in a two-game sweep of THS, 6-5 and 10-4.
Sophomore pitcher McKenna Hall hurled a four-hitter in the opener, but Tonganoxie had Lansing on the ropes heading into the bottom of the seventh. THS led 5-2 with one out when Hall laced a double to left field. Mallory Barnhouse grounded out for the second out, but then the bats started clicking. Danielle Glynn singled to right. Then Laura McCombs singled to left and scored Hall. Meghan Riley followed with a single that scored Glynn and made it 5-4. A base hit by Andrea Shanks loaded the bases, and Ashley Dalby smashed a double to right-center that plated McCombs and Riley for the victory.
Lansing's final kick included four runs and five straight hits with two outs.
LHS cruised in game two and upped its record to 5-4.
