Library completes Sizzlin’ Summer lineup
Lansing Community Library and the Parks & Recreation Department are sponsoring the fourth annual Sizzlin' Summer Program Series this summer. Programs are at 10 a.m. each Thursday at the Lansing Activity Center and last about 45 minutes each.
This year we have some returning acts that have been a hit in the past and we have a few new acts lined up.
The first show will be Thursday, June 14, and will be presented by Professor McMusic, who entertains and educates as he demonstrates and performs on many unusual instruments including the nose flute, saw, fruitophone, the two-handed sewer flute, Air Synthesizer and the Japanese Finger Flute. The instruments are so unusual, you won't believe your eyes or your ears!
The Magic of Devin Henderson
The Magic of Devin Henderson will be presented on Thursday, June 21. Devin's perplexing mentalism and science-defying effects mesmerize adults as he incorporates the perfect touch of comedy into his routines. There's no better combination than mind-blowing magic and comedic patter to entertain an adult crowd. He can pull a deck of cards out of his mouth! You won't want to miss this show!
Savanahland Educational Park will present the show on Thursday, July 28. Savanahland will present four animals, including a monkey.
Mystery of Song City
"Once upon a Rhyme :There was a Crime." Find the clues and help crack the case. Thad Beach presents "The Mixed-up Mystery of Song City" on Thursday, July 5. This show is a fun exploration of classic children's rhymes created to coordinate with the Library's summer reading program theme, "Get a Clue @ Your Library."
Magic & Puppets
Nearly Normal Magic & Puppets will be presented by Harris Deutsch, doctor of laughology, on Thursday, July 12. His motto is "Bringing magic and laughter to the world, one group at a time." Nigel the puppet is the star of this show. While most people call it ventriloquism, Deutsch calls it 'ven-trick-o-lism.'
Rep-Tails will present the program on Thursday, July 19. Rep-Tails will present an educational and exciting adventure, featuring some of the Earth's most unique creatures. The kangaroo will be returning this year, along with three other animals.
Richard Renner, the Vodvill Klown, will present the show on Thursday, July 26. Renner brings his own special brand of humor, which includes juggling, unicycling, rope walking and much more. This is an exciting, fast-paced show that you are sure to love.
Jay & Leslie's Laughing Matters will present the final performance of the series on Thursday, Aug. 2. Join us to solve "The Case of the Mysterious Case" featuring juggling, mime, magic and other nonsense.
Punch cards are available through June 14. Punch cards are $10 and will allow 10 admissions to any shows throughout the summer series. Punch cards may be purchased at the Lansing Community Library and Lansing Parks and Recreation offices. Call (913) 727-2929 or (913) 727-2960 for more information.
Patrons without a punch card may pay at the door on the day of the event. Individual admission is $2 per person.
