Regional softball tournament today at Lansing City Park
The road back to the Class 5A state tournament is a familiar one for the Lansing High softball team.
LHS enters regional play with a 14-6 record - the same mark last year's state tournament team carried into the postseason.
The regional tournament, which begins at 3 p.m. today, also is at the same venue as last year's regional: Lansing City Park.
Whether Lansing obtains an identical result to last year remains to be seen. Second-seed LHS first must get by seventh-seed Bonner Springs (3-14). If that happens, then the Lions would play the winner of No. 3 Topeka Seaman (11-8) and No. 6 Turner (4-11) at 6:30 p.m. in the finals.
Lansing likely will send freshman Rachel Milnark (4-3) to the mound against Bonner Springs. Milnark threw a no-hitter against the Bravettes last week. Should the Lions win, sophomore Brittney Lang (10-3) likely will be the starter for the championship game.
