Service academies ball scheduled

The United States Naval Academy Parents' Club of Western Missouri and Kansas' annual Service Academies and Military Colleges Holiday Banquet and Ball will be Saturday, Dec. 29.

The ball will be at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown, 200 West 12th St., Kansas City, Mo.

The event is open to current students, alumni, families, relatives and friends of the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, the Citadel, Norwich University and the Virginia Military Institute. Any young men and women interested in learning more about the service academies also can attend.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a social hour. A Grand Entrance of Cadets/Midshipmen and their escorts, along with a welcome by Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt will open the event. After dinner Gen. Michael W. Hagee, 33rd commandant of the Marine Corps, will give the keynote address. Dancing will follow.

The evening includes a silent auction, and a photographer will be available for formal pictures. Tickets cost $35 per person.
