A time of giving
Thanksgiving is almost here and that means the Lansing Kiwanis Club bell-ringing week at the Petro Deli is about to start. We will be ringing the bell from Friday, Nov. 16, to Saturday, Nov. 24.
It is great to see the generosity of our local residents as they stop by the deli for gas or go in for groceries or snacks.
This year's goal is $65,000. The Salvation Army has been helping people in Leavenworth since 1896, with food, clothing, rent, utilities and furniture.
There are many hours available for bell-ringers at other locations in the county. If you have an hour or two and the desire to help, please call the Salvation Army Office at 682-6523.
The Salvation Army Family Store is at Fifth and Choctaw streets in Leavenworth and generates a large part of the budget, so if you are looking for bargains, that is the place to go.
You would be pleased with the choices. Also they always appreciate donations of all types that they could sell at their store.
It is hard to believe Christmas is almost here and we need to think about the folks in our community who are not as fortunate as we are. I also want to mention that the Mayor's Christmas Tree Lighting will be Dec. 2. That gives us another opportunity to be generous with food, toys and money to benefit Lansing residents in need.
The Petro Deli is at 601 S. Main, and Rick and Cindy Jaccard have been generous in letting us use a corner of their building by the front door. So stop by and see us and give us a smile as well as a donation.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
