Heartfelt thanks

As a parent of a child in the Basehor-Linwood school district, I’d like to give a heartfelt “thanks” to my fellow affirmative voters on the school bond issue.

The veneer has been lifted and the element of surprise is gone. Basehor-Linwoods, 17-5 record last year put the team back on the basketball map, and some of those victories came against programs that were used to dominating the Bobcats.
A season to give thanks for fans

With the Thanksgiving holiday upon us, the city in a football frenzy over the Kansas and Missouri game on Saturday, and the high school sports season at a lull, I’m taking a minute to talk about one of the prep games’ biggest fans. Tom Mordy is a Shawnee Mission North High School sports fan. In my career covering sports, I have met a lot of people who love high school sports, but he is the most passionate high school sports fans that I know. He is in his 40s, and I have known him since I was in second grade. Mordy graduated from Shawnee Mission North in the 1970s and attended the school’s developmental center.
Wrestling season kicks off Tuesday

The Basehor-Linwood and Bonner Springs wrestling teams will begin the the season together on Tuesday.
BLHS girls’ hoops team begins year with new coach

Last year’s Basehor-Linwood girl’s basketball team achieved their team motto of “Cross the Line.” The Lady Bobcats had the program’s first winning record five years finishing 12-10. This year, the Lady ‘Cats return five starters and most all role players. There will be one major chang —former assistant coach Noah Simpson took over the helm after Tami Holthus resigned in March.
