Accident mars K-7, turnpike interchange
An accident has caused the Kansas Turnpike Authority to partially close the interchange at Kansas Highway 7.
An R. J. Corman Derailment Services semi tractor-trailer hauling a damaged rail car hit the Kansas Turnpike interchange bridge at milepost 224 about 3:40 p.m. Tuesday. There were no injuries.
But because of the accident, K-7 traffic will not be able to enter the turnpike to travel eastbound on Interstate 70 to Kansas City, and eastbound traffic on I-70 is also unable to exit to access K-7.
The Turnpike Authority, in a news release, said by Wednesday morning - emergency construction repairs permitting - K-7 traffic will be able to enter the turnpike and travel eastbound to Kansas City on I-70, but eastbound access from I-70 to K-7 will still be closed to traffic until repairs can be made to the bridge at milepost 224.
