Austin Knipp has evidently acclimated himself quickly to a new level of play. The former Bobcat star, who became the first prep player in the state’s history to score 100 goals, was named the Kansas Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 18-24.

The Bonner Springs football team is 4-1 for the first time in well, a long time. Team statisticians said the year was 1996, Lew Kasselman’s first on the Bonner Springs sidelines. “This is just a piece of it all,” Kasselman told his team after the 27-10 win over Mill Valley.
BSHS runners win first race of year

Bonner Springs cross-country team won its first race of the season on Sept. 22. The Braves had five runners place in the top 15 spots in the race. “We had a really good day,” Bonner coach Bill Downing said. “We couldn’t have asked for much better.”

I attended a high school soccer game earlier this week. The fans were all over the referees. You’d have thought the Oakland Raiders were playing at Arrowhead or Kansas was playing K-State in Manhattan.
