LHS sweeps at Pleasant Ridge
For the second time in 10 days the Lansing High cross country program swept the boys and girls team titles at a meet when both squads placed first on Thursday at the Pleasant Ridge Invitational.
Just like at the Lansing Invitational, sophomore Brandon Craig was the boys' overall champion as he covered the five-kilometer course in 18:46.02. Meanwhile, sophomore Lauren Jaqua claimed the girls' four-kilometer title in 17:57.59.
The LHS boys placed first as a team with 42 points. The Lansing girls won with 24 points, far ahead of second-place Basehor's 57.
Craig won the boys' race with a 39-second cushion, but he wasn't the only Lansing medalist. In fact, all of the Lions medaled by finishing in the top 25. Senior Griffin Davis was eighth overall in 20:15.04. Also competing for LHS were Pete LaMoe, Jim Mayes, Ezra Carpenter, Greg Bremser and Grant Hinckley.
Although Jaqua was the girls' champion, first place could've gone to a number of Lions. Fellow sophomore Sarah Nielsen finished in second place, just four seconds behind Jaqua, in 18:01.89. Sophomore Melanie Pilkington placed third in 18:27.61, sophomore Julia Winkler was eighth in 19:25.45, sophomore Kate Meara was 10th in 19:44.43 and freshman Cassie Roberts was 11th in 19:49.17.
