Bobcats hold the Cards
Team advances to second round of regional competition with 7-0 home victory over Eudora
Basehor-Linwood soccer players Sam Seaman and Ryan Sirridge each scored two goals to ensure the Bobcats an easy second round regional victory against Eudora, 7-0, on Tuesday.
The Bobcats were well rested after having a first round bye as the number one seed in the bracket. Eudora, the No. 13 seed, beat Tonganoxie on Monday night.
All was not perfect on this night for the Bobcats, however, as the team looked sluggish in the first half.
BLHS led just 2-0 at halftime.
"In the second half we were a different team," coach Kevin Vincent said. "We showed we were deserving of the No. 1 seed. We were a little uptight. We just needed to settle down and have fun and play the game we are capable of."
Kyle Allen, Jonas Box and Mitch Mallon also scored for the Bobcats, who improved to 15-2 on the season. Matthew Murrell recorded the shutout in goal with five saves.
Vincent said he expects a more even performance from his team as the post season continues.
"I think that we need to come out with the intensity and the fire that we have had in the second half and have that in the first half," Vincent said. "We need to play a complete game."
The team needs to focus.
"I think we are capable of going wherever we want to go," Vincent said. "But in the postseason, every team is good. We aren't going to say we are the best until the end of the season and hopefully we can back that up."
