Voter requests recount
Basehor-Linwood district voter, David Jons, has requested a recount of the $39.9 million bond issue that officially passed Monday by 29 votes.
Leavenworth County Clerk Linda Scheer said after the Canvass of votes was complete on Monday, any registered voter who cast a ballot in the election could request a recount by 5 p.m. Tuesday. The recount request must be presented in writing, the requester has to indicate the method of recount and a fee must be paid with the amount determined by the method of recount.
Jons paid a $500 fee for a hand recount, which will begin at 8:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 1. Members from two election boards made up of eight total people will count the more than 4,000 ballots by hand.
Basehor-Linwood district Superintendent Bob Albers said they were excited to hear that the bond issue had passed and are confident the results of the election will remain the same after the recount.
