Mill Valley quarterback Luke Lawyer scored a second half touchdown Friday and led his team to a 21-10 win over Basehor-Linwood.
It was the only score of the second half, which was a contrast to the first two quarters of play.
In the first half both teams moved the ball with ease and combined to score 24 points.
Mill Valley scored first on a Lawyer touchdown run with a minute remaining in the first quarter.
Zak King followed with the extra point.
Basehor-Linwood tied the football game in the second quarter with an extended drive. The Bobcats ran to the left side behind Ethan Douglass, a 6-7 281-pound senior, and Austin Hunter a 6-foot-1 280-pound lineman.
Basehor's running game opened up its passing game as quarterback Brandon Leppke passed the ball effectively to receivers. He also rushed in on the left side of the line for the score.
Following the score, Mill Valley went on an extended drive with Nicholas Woods, King and Shawn Stene running the football. Woods had a long 37-yard run on the drive and later scored a touchdown.
The drive lasted 80 plays and four minutes.
Basehor took the ball over and drove the ball down the field. They ran and passed the ball at will. Kyle Savner came in the game and made a field goal.
Mill Valley, 2-0, plays at Piper on Friday. Basehor-Linwood, 0-2, plays host to Perry-Lecompton.
