Tuesday morning, officials broke ground on the sprawling Schlitterbahn Vacation Village complex, set to open next summer in Kansas City, Kan., with the first components of its water resort, lodgings, shops and restaurants.

As recently as two years ago, the Basehor-Linwood boys soccer team had never been ranked in the Kansas Soccer Coaches Association poll. They are now the number one ranked team in the state. “It is pretty exciting,” coach Kevin Vincent said. “We have had some success, and for your peers and other teams to recognize that is a huge accomplishment. Especially coming from Basehor-Linwood where soccer isn’t the most dominant sport. For us to take it to that level is a huge accomplishment.”

Basehor-Linwood rallies for first victory of season

Basehor-Linwood drove 79 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter of Friday’s game to pull out a 27-21 victory over Perry-Lecompton. It was the Bobcats first lead of the game. Brandon Leppke ran for 5-yards on a quarterback keeper for the touchdown. Chandler Schaake added the two point conversion to finish the scoring.

Awhile back I stated in my column prior to the start of the Major League Baseball season that I wasn’t going to bash the Royals, but I didn’t say anything about letting the Kansas City Chiefs off the hook. With regards to the Royals, in my opinion, it wasn’t too bad a season. I listen to many games on the radio. The Royals made my day on Sunday by defeating Cleveland 4-3.
Basehor-Linwood splits matches against Lansing, Perry-Lecompton

Basehor-Linwood volleyball players split a pair of matches on Tuesday night improving their season record to 10-4. The Bobcats defeated Perry Lecompton, 25-11, 25-15 in the first match of the night.
Bonner Springs, Mill Valley remain undefeated

Bonner Springs and Mill Valley distanced themselves a bit from the rest of the Kaw Valley League in week three. It took a come-from-behind effort against Piper for Mill Valley to remain unbeaten at 3-0. Meanwhile, Bonner Springs blew out Tonganoxie, 30-8, to move to 3-0.

Cassie Lombardino has become a player to reckon with in Basehor-Linwood’s front line this season. The senior has been there to block an opponents’ volleyball on offense or come through with a big kill on offense. “Cassie has improved significantly over last year, she is a great front row force for us, she is blocking very well and serving tough,” coach Tammy Zydlo said.
