Bonner Springs, Mill Valley remain undefeated
Bonner Springs and Mill Valley distanced themselves a bit from the rest of the Kaw Valley League in week three.
It took a come-from-behind effort against Piper for Mill Valley to remain unbeaten at 3-0. Meanwhile, Bonner Springs blew out Tonganoxie, 30-8, to move to 3-0.
The next two weeks will be a pivotal period for the KVL standings, however. Mill Valley takes on defending league champ and currently winless Tonganoxie in week four while Bonner Springs plays host to Lansing (2-1). Then, in week five, the Braves and Jaguars will go head-to-head in a showdown at Mill Valley.
Bonner Springs and Mill Valley are the league's last unbeatens thanks to Basehor-Linwood's come-from-behind victory over previously unblemished Perry-Lecompton on Friday night. Brandon Leppke scored the game-winning touchdown with 48 seconds left and gave the Bobcats their first victory of the season.
Thanks to Basehor's upset of Perry, Lansing and Bishop Ward have reentered the league championship picture. Lansing can rattle the KVL standings by winning its remaining league games because it still has head-to-head matchups with Bonner and Mill Valley (Oct. 5), as well as Basehor on Sept. 28.
