Local teen involved in accident
A Basehor-Linwood High School senior was injured in a one-vehicle accident late Wednesday morning.
According to Basehor police reports, Christopher Spiess, 17, was heading west on Parallel Road near 147th Street when his 2001 GMC Jimmy left the road and struck a tree on the south side of Parallel Road around 11:40 a.m.
A medical helicopter landed at the Basehor-Linwood High School football field to transport the teen to Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
Photos from the scene show heavy damage to the driver's side of the vehicle, police chief Terry Horner said, but details of injuries Spiess may have sustained are unknown. The reason the vehicle left the roadway is also under investigation.
Spiess was listed in good condition as of Wednesday afternoon, a hospital official said.
