Stix improve to 6-1 with sweep
The Stix baseball team, a fall ball squad made up primarily of Lansing High players, posted a 13-3 victory over Pembroke Hill and a 6-1 victory over Belton on Sunday at the 3&2 Baseball Complex.
The Stix now are 6-1 this fall. They next play at 12:40 p.m. Saturday and then play a doubleheader at 2:20 p.m. Sunday to close out the season.
The Stix opened the game with Pembroke Hill by taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a run-scoring single by Kyle Hutchison. The Raiders took the lead with three runs in the top of the third, but the Stix answered quickly. Austin Taylor opened the bottom of the inning with a single. Jason Crook and Hunter Adams then singled. Taylor scored on a wild pitch, and Crook and Adams scored when Peter Gibson reached on an error. Gibson scored when Hutchison reached on an error and gave the stix a 5-3 lead.
The Stix plated three more runs in the fourth, Hutchison hit a solo homer in the fifth and the Stix went on to post a run-rule victory.
Adams finished the game with a three-for-three performance and three runs scored. Hutchison and Crook both went two-for-three. Gibson had five RBI. Tyler Harper earned the victory with a three-hit, six-strikeout effort.
Against Belton, Dakota Smith threw a seven-inning two-hitter with 15 strikeouts and just one walk. Kris Hernandez, Crook and Smith had two hits apiece.
