Chase leads from Leavenworth to Lansing to KCK
Lansing PD helps capture suspects
Two Kansas City, Kan., men were arrested Thursday night after reportedly committing criminal damage to a Leavenworth property and an attempted carjacking at a Leavenworth convenience store.
About 11:30 p.m. Thursday two men, ages 38 and 22, crashed their stolen vehicle into a pawn and gun shop in the 700 block of Shawnee, said Lansing Police Chief Steve Wayman.
The two men then attempted to carjack the car of a female Fort Leavenworth employee who was stopped at a convenience store after work. When the woman refused to turn over her car keys, one man beat her with a weapon. Wayman said the woman sustained injuries on her face and head and had a broken tooth. The men then fled without taking the woman's car.
The Lansing Police Department responded to an attempt to locate call from the Leavenworth Police Department. The men were spotted on Kansas 5 highway and were pursued by Lansing police.
The police chased the vehicle until it crashed at 72nd and Parallel Parkway in Kansas City, Kan., after spike strips had been placed in the roadway. Wayman said the Lansing police then chased the men in a foot pursuit before taking them into custody. Wayman said officers retrieved a weapon from inside the vehicle.
One of the men was taken to an area hospital for minor injuries but has been released and now both are being held at the Leavenworth County Jail.
