April 7, 2008

— The Leavenworth County Human Services Council seeking nominations for its ninth-annual Spirit of Humanitarianism Award for Volunteer Service.

The award was developed to publicly honor those individuals - including youths, groups/organizations, or businesses that unselfishly devote time, energy, and effort by doing acts of goodwill toward others in the community.

The award is defined by using the following four words:

¢ Altruism - unselfish concern for the welfare of others

¢ Philanthropy - a desire to help mankind

¢ Charity - an act of goodwill or kindness in judging others

¢ Humanitarianism - persons devoted to promoting the welfare of humanity

The council welcomes nominations for individual, groups, businesses, and encourages students and young adults to be nominated. Nominees must reside in Leavenworth County.

Recipients will be honored and presented with their awards at a luncheon hosted by Leavenworth County Human Services Council on Monday, May 19. The names of the honorees will be added to a plaque that is permanently displayed at the Leavenworth County Courthouse.

Obtain a nomination form by contacting Karalin Alsdurf at KCKCC-Leavenworth Center, 225 Cherokee, by phone (913) 651-2111 or by email
