Bravettes earn split with Lady Pirates
The Bonner Springs softball team earned a split Tuesday night at Piper.
The Bravettes won the first game 3-1 behind the strong pitching of Sadie Kelly. She also contributed a run-scoring single in the three-run third inning. Also in that inning, Kaylie Holloway and Starian Porchia added singles, along with a double by Chelsea Crouch. Solid defense by the Bravettes preserve the lead.
The second game saw the defensive wheels come off as Bonner Springs was defeated 13-3 in six innings. Singles in the top of the sixth by Paige Hinson, Crouch and Porchia accounted for the Bravettes' three runs.
BSHS dropped a pair of games Monday night at Perry-Lecompton, falling 5-0 and 8-4.
In game one, a strong defensive effort by Bonner and solid pitching by Kelly kept the game close until the bottom of the sixth. That's when Perry pushed across two runs that extended the lead to 3-0. Offensively, Bonner managed only two hits, both by Porchia.
In the second game, Bonner took a 1-0 lead in the third inning but was unable to hang on.
The Bravettes have a string of 4:30 p.m. home games this week, starting with Mill Valley today. Tonganoxie comes to town Friday.
