Professional storyteller to visit Basehor library
Priscilla Howe's stories can be silly, scary or serious, but they're always entertaining.
The Lawrence resident and professional storyteller will be at the Basehor Community Library at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, and she's bringing her puppet sidekicks along as well.
"The program is called 'Silly Stuff' and it is a mixture of stories, songs and puppets and it's perfect for all ages," Howe said. "We will just have a big, fun time. My puppets are pretty ridiculous. They come out between the stories and act as my host."
"She's very animated and she's great with voices," said Vickey Long, the library's children's director. "She can really keep their attention."
A former children's librarian on her native East Coast, Howe pursued her passion as a storyteller full time in 1993 and travels all over the United States and abroad telling stories at festivals, workshops, schools and libraries to children and adults of all ages.
"I have a big repertoire," she said. "I tailor the show to the audience in front of me. I'm also deeply invested in getting kids to read and love the library."
