Basehor boys to play in tourney finals
Chandler Schaake scored 15 points and led the Basehor-Linwood boys basketball team to a 56-47 victory over Osawatomie on Friday in the semifinals of the Central Heights Tournament.
The score was 22-22 at halftime, and coach Mike McBride said his team seemed to relax at halftime, building a 12-point lead in the third quarter. The lead, though, didn’t last long as Osawatomie cut the deficit to two points.
Basehor-Linwood and Osawatomie played back-and-forth basketball the rest of the game, but the Bobcats slowly extended the lead.
In addition to Schaake, the Bobcats had a balanced scoring attack in the game as every player scored.
Clint Schierbaum scored 9 points. Ryan Murphy scored 6 points. Andy Pierce scored 3 points. Mark Vaca scored 4 points and Tanner Bowers scored 6 points. Justin Gripka scored 5 points and Colin Murphy scored 2 points.
Basehor-Linwood plays St. James Academy at 7:30 p.m. today in the tournament championship game.
The game is a rematch of last season’s Class 4A sub-state semifinal game that was played at Spring Hill. St. James Academy won the game by 20 points.
“We are going to learn a lot about ourselves and our team,” McBride said.
