Extension to offer master food program
People with interests in food, cooking and nutrition can take their knowledge to another level by enrolling in the 2009 master food volunteer training program offered by K-State Extension Service. The training, conducted in cooperation with the Douglas County and Shawnee County Extension Offices, will begin Feb. 12, and will continue each Thursday through April 9. Training will be at the Douglas County Extension Office in Lawrence. Volunteers receive 40 hours of training in basic nutrition, food science, food preparation and preservation and food safety. In return, they provide 40 hours of community service by sharing their love of food and cooking with the public. An informational brochure and application can be obtained at the Leavenworth County Extension Office, 500 Eisenhower Road, Leavenworth, or downloaded from the Leavenworth County Extension Web site at leavenworth.ksu.edu.
