Basehor girls win powerlifting meet
The Basehor-Linwood girl's powerlifting team finished in first place on Feb. 2 in a meet at Emporia High School. Coach Ross Schwisow characterized the meet as "highly competitive" and it featured more than 380 participants.
The boys and junior teams both took third place.
"We had alot of lifters score points for the team as well as several place in the top 3 in their weight class," Schwisow said. "Our boys team did well also, however we had several experienced lifters recieve no lifts which is very costly."
Bailey Kraus attempted a meet record of 270 on the squat but failed trying.
In the 123-pound weight class, she finished second overall and first in the bench. Lauren Klem took first in the squat (105). Megan Rehm (136) took second overall. Jessica Farris (114) was third overall, as was Kayla Peterson (130), Cara Stubenrauch (141) and Kenzie Mitchener (152).
Chris Douglas (114), Travis Inlow (123), Cody Green (220) and Ethan Douglas (heavyweight) all took first overall in the clean for their respective weight classes. Douglas attempted a meet record on the clean at 340, but could not complete the lift. Douglas finished third overall and Inlow second overall, respectively. Nathan Smith (114) also took second overall.
Brady Blackwood (123) placed second overall in his weight class for the junior team.
