Congress hopeful to visit area
Kansas State Treasurer Lynn Jenkins will be stopping this weekend in Leavenworth to talk about her soon-to-launch campaign for Congress.
Jenkins will give brief remarks beginning at noon Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Riverfront Community Center, 123 S. Esplanade. Jenkins is expected to discuss her background, her qualifications for Congress and her plans for the upcoming campaign. She also will talk about ways for residents to get involved in the campaign. After her remarks, Jenkins will visit with residents and address their questions and concerns.
"I am excited to be gearing up for the congressional campaign and to be taking my message of lower taxes, reduced spending, and secure borders directly to the people of Leavenworth County," Jenkins said. "Folks voted for change in 2006, but it is clear they did not get the change they wanted. It is my hope to give people a chance to turn the page on failures in Washington, D.C., and move forward with fresh, new Republican leadership."
Jenkins is serving her second term as state treasurer. She previously served in the Kansas House of Representatives and Kansas Senate. Jenkins has been a certified public accountant for 20 years.
