State’s OK saves city $2.7 million on sewer plant
February 27, 2008
The state’s anti-degradation policy now requires all new or improved wastewater plants to provide higher-quality water treatment based on the city’s economy. Basehor originally was required to comply with and received a permit for Level A, or the lowest stringency tier. However, KDHE recently asked the city about the feasibility of raising the required standards to a higher level, which would cost the city about $2.7 million more it had planned.

Basehor-Linwood girls basketball team wins first-round game against De Soto
February 27, 2008
From the start of Monday’s opening-round substate game between Basehor-Linwood and De Soto high schools, both teams clearly stated their strategies. Basehor-Linwood started in a full-court press and pushed the ball up the court on offense with breakneck speed. De Soto, in contrast, packed all five defenders into the key and attempted to clog the middle. On offense, the Wildcats tried to slow the pace. The differences were stark, but it was the Bobcats’ size and speed, along with hot perimeter shooting, which allowed them to win the game 66-36. “I told the girls that you have to throw records out and understand that the season starts over,” BLHS coach Noah Simpson said. “It’s 0-0-you lose, you go home. I told them to try to stay focused for all 32 minutes. I told them I would apologize tomorrow if the score got out of hand, but that we were playing for Thursday and beyond that.” The Bobcats led 14-2 midway through the first quarter. At halftime, the team led 40-12.

Simpson is doing a nice job at BLHS
February 27, 2008
Boy, what a difference a year makes. Last year around this time, the Basehor-Linwood girls were a solid but unspectacular team. The group played low-scoring, slug-it-out games. The Bobcats made significant progress from the year before, achieving their first winning season (12-10) and substate win in the same season since 1996-97, but something always seemed to be missing.
BLHS beats Cards for substate win
February 27, 2008
The score was 25-17 at halftime. It wasn’t an imposing lead for Basehor-Linwood, but it probably should have been. However, they struggled to build a significant lead on the scoreboard.
