KCK Police: Check your Public Storage unit in KCK, Shawnee or Merriam
The Kansas City Kansas Police Department's Burglary Unit has requested anyone who has rented a storage unit from Public Storage at 6600 State Ave. in Kansas City, Kan., the Public Storage at 7100 Frontage Rd. in Merriam, or the Public Storage at Shawnee Mission Parkway and Hedge Lane, Shawnee, to double-check their storage lockers as soon as possible. If the unit has been burglarized please contact your local police department and make a report so charges can be filed and property can be accounted for. The modus operandi of the burglars was to cut the off locks of the storage units, burglarize the units, and then replace the locks with different locks. The suspect removed the PS (Public Storage) sticker off the locks and place it on the new lock, so at first glance it will look like the unit has not been disturbed.
On Saturday, Mar. 1, between 1000 hours and 1400 hours at ASAP Storage - 7401 State Ave., Kansas City, Kan., the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department along with Merriam Police Department and Shawnee Police Department will provide an opportunity for victims of the thefts to identify their stolen property. Property recovered from all three Police Departments will be available for victims to view.
The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department's Burglary Unit is encouraging anyone with information regarding the incident to please call 913-573-6020 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
The Bonner Springs Police Department phone number is (913) 422-7800 and the Edwardsville Police Department's number is (913) 441-6983.
