Pharmacy slated for opening this summer
This summer, Basehor residents will reap the benefits of another much needed amenity.
Ground has been broken on a pharmacy and possible clinic called the Medicine Store on the southeast corner of the roundabout at 155th Street and Pinehurst Drive. Owner Gary Holst said the new store in Basehor would be similar to his Holst Pharmacy in Tonganoxie.
"It's going to be a retail pharmacy much like our retail pharmacy in Tonganoxie, but it's going to be almost twice as big, so there will be more variety," he said.
The building is set to be about 7,000-square-feet, Holst said and with the additional space, he hopes to attract a doctor's group into the building.
"We've just scratched the surface," Holst said about the Basehor location. "We're probably less than 5 percent into the job. The weather is slowing us down at this point. We're probably looking at July to get everything done."
There will be about six to 10 employees, he said, depending on the volume of business. Holst has already hired a pharmacist, a Basehor native, to run the new pharmacy.
The Medicine Store will feature a drive-thru window to pick up prescriptions.
Both the Basehor and Tonganoxie locations will be linked, so customers will be able to fill their prescriptions at either location. Hours of operation have not been set, but Holst said one of the locations would most likely be open a little bit later to allow commuters the chance to pick up their prescriptions later in the evening.
"It's something I've been wanting to do for a long time," Holst said. "I think the time is right. We've got a good mix of product that will fill most people's needs. We're a typical hometown pharmacy. We want to provide good service to the community and we hope for a lot of community support. We're excited about coming to Basehor."
