Bonner Parks to offer girls volleyball
Bonner Springs Parks and Recreation this fall will offer a girls volleyball camp and a girls volleyball league for grades third through sixth.
Campers will learn volleyball skills in the Aug. 25-28 camp, which will run 6-7:30 p.m. at Jim's Gym in the Bonner Springs Community Center, 205 E. Third St. The cost for the camp is $30. Camp instructor is Mendy Brents, Bonner Springs High School assistant volleyball coach.
"Our goal is to prepare young girls so their middle and high school volleyball experiences will be more enjoyable," Brents said.
The Girls Volleyball League gives participants the opportunity to learn and practice rules, skills, techniques and participate in games, while meeting other girls. The league games and practices will be held at Jim's Gym in the Bonner Springs Community Center. Registration is open now through Sept. 1, with practices starting Sept. 6. Games and pre-season practices will be held on Saturdays. Volunteer coaches are needed. Cost of the league is $30 and runs into October.
"The camp and league are a great chance for girls to learn a game they can play throughout their life," said Skip Dobbs, director of Parks and Recreation. "We had over 107 participants in our Adult Volleyball League this past winter."
For more information on the camp and league or to volunteer as a coach for the league, call (913) 422-7010 or (913) 441-1662.
