4 BLHS softball players on All-League squads
The Basehor-Linwood High School softball team's season may have ended in regional play, but the Lady Bobcats put an exclamation point on it with the announcement of four players receiving All-Kaw Valley League honors.
Senior infielder Chelsey Patton joined senior outfielder Jennifer Sirridge on the first team, while senior shortstop Maggie Schroeder got a second team nod. Junior infielder Kara Douglas received honorable mention recognition.
Patton's first-team selection is her second in a row. Schroeder also was a second-team pick in 2007.
The four total picks on the All-KVL squads were an improvement from the three that BLHS received a year ago.
Basehor's season ended with a 3-2 loss in the semifinals of the Class 4A regional tournament to Perry-Lecompton. Patton hit a triple and scored the first run of the contest, but it wasn't enough down the stretch as the Kaws hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning to seal Basehor's fate.
The Lady 'Cats finished the season at 11-9 overall.
Perry-Lecompton led the way on the All-KVL list with five players recognized. Joining Basehor with four apiece were Lansing and Tonganoxie. Bishop Ward and Piper had three players apiece on the All-League teams; Mill Valley - a Class 5A state tournament participant - had two first-teamers and no others on the squad; and Bonner Springs landed two players on the second team.
