Temporary permits needed for fireworks
June 18, 2008
With July 4 approaching, Leavenworth County Planning and Zoning staff is reminding area fireworks vendors they must apply for a temporary special use permit in order to operate a commercial fireworks stand in the county without facing fines or penalties from local law enforcement.
Brian Anderson, a Leavenworth planner, said Monday there is a $30 application fee for each permit, with a copy of the vendor's deed, site plan and proof of liability insurance required.
Applications can be found online at www.leavenworthcounty.org or by visiting the planning and zoning department at the county courthouse, 300 Walnut St., Leavenworth.
Anderson confirmed that applications have already been received by four vendors, and he encouraged others to apply now, as there is generally a lag of at least a couple days before applications meet county commissioners' approval.
For more information call the planning and zoning department at (913) 684-0465.
