College Stars Camp returns to BLHS
Last year University of Kansas basketball stars Sasha Kaun, Darnell Jackson and Jeremy Case were among the group of Jayhawks helping conduct the College Stars Basketball Camp at Basehor-Linwood High School.
This year a new batch of Jayhawks will be in the building.
The camp takes place Monday, June 30, and Tuesday, July 1, at BLHS. It will feature multiple sessions. The early session for girls of all ages and boys ages 7-8 will be from 9 a.m. to noon. The second session for boys ages 9 and up will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Students ages 7-17 are premitted to attend. Cost is $70 per camper, which includes a basketball and a camp T-shirt. In addition to skill instruction, there will be prize-winning contests.
The camp, which is conducted by Washburn University basketball coach Bob Chipman, is expected to draw college stars from KU and Kansas State University.
Among the crop of players who have helped staff previous sessions of the camp are KU's Sherron Collins, Tyrel Reed and Cole Aldrich and K-State's Jacob Pullen and Marlies Gipson.
The camp flyer advertised KU stars Mario Chalmers, Darrell Arthur, Collins, Aldrich and Reed, as well as K-State's Bill Walker as potential camp staffers. The status of Chalmers, Arthur and Walker is doubtful, however, considering all three are expected to be selected somewhere in the NBA Draft on Thursday.
Another potential camp staffer is incoming KU freshman and Bishop Miege product Travis Releford.
