Some of the strongest teenage weightlifters in Kansas go to school at Basehor-Linwood High School.
The Basehor-Linwood girls powerlifting team won the Class 4A State title and finished the season with an undefeated record in five meets.
The boys team lost to Russell High by four points.
The two performances capped a strong season of lifting for the Bobcats who took 65 weightlifters to the meet in Clearwater, Kan., on Saturday.
"For our first year of having a full team, we were very happy," coach Ross Schwisow said. "We had kids that if they didn't win first, then they placed in the top six and were scoring points."
Basehor-Linwood also had two athletes set new state records in the meet.
Travis Inlow broke the states 140-pound hang clean record with a lift of 245 pounds.
Ethan Douglas broke the heavyweight clean record with a clean of 335 pounds.
Both lifters won their weight classes. The team's other event winners were Jefferson Boor 132 and Bailey Kraus 114.
Schwisow said he is pleased with how his team improved and became better athletes while preparing for spring sports and lifting weights.
"All the kids made a strong showing," Schwisow said. "we had four individuals try for state records. We set two new records. It was a great day."
