WyCo 4-H shooting club wins regional match
Wyandotte County 4-H Shooting Sports club played host to its third annual Northeast Regional Match on Saturday at Camp Naish. The event was one of the qualifying matches to compete in the 4-H State Championship, which will be next month in Great Bend.
The Wyandotte County 4-H BB gun team took first place for the fourth match in a row, with a total score of 1837 points to qualify for state. Team members hope to advance from the state competition to the International BB Gun Championship Match this July in Bowling Green, Ky.
On the Wyandotte County 4-H team 17 shooters vied for a place on the team for each match, and competed against four other teams. Wyandotte County team members for the match were Caleb Paterson, 13; Allison Augustine, 12; Lydia Paterson, 11; Ian Reynolds, 15, and Madison Lally, 12.

One hundred and thirty-six shooters in 4-H teams from 10 different counties across the state participated in the regional event. BB-gun shooters, ages 8 to 15, shot at targets in all four positions (prone, standing, sitting and kneeling). Air-rifle shooters, ages 11 to 18, fired from three different positions (prone, standing, and kneeling). Air-pistol competitors, ages 11 to 18, shot from the standing position at somewhat larger targets.
Wyandotte County Shooting Sports club also competes in other sanctioned events, and its next match will be in Alma, Kan., competing in the Kansas State Rifle Association-sponsored Kansas State Championship.
