Patron registration begins for library’s ice cream party
The library is now taking registration for our William Allen White Ice Cream Party, which will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1. To be eligible, patrons must be in third through eighth grade and must have read at least three of the 2008 nominees.
There are several great books in this collection including "Defiance" by Valerie Hobbs, which is about a boy whose cancer is in remission. When his symptoms return, he hides this information from his parents and tries to live a normal life for a while.
"Princess Academy' by Shannon Hale is another nominee. This book is about a group of mountain girls who are in training to become eligible to marry the prince and become a princess. This book won the Newbery Honor Award in 2006.
The 2009 nominees will be introduced at the ice cream party. Register now for this event and see what's new for next year.
Lansing Community Library began issuing replacement cards in February. The new cards are more durable and come with a key tag as well. If you have not yet upgraded to the new card, stop in soon to get the new cards. It only takes a few minutes. The old red cards will no longer be valid after April 30. There is no fee for the library card upgrade.
Stop by the library during March or April and make a Wanted poster and become a Wanted Reader.
