Lady ‘Cats sweep Bravettes in softball
Basehor-Linwood swept Bonner Springs in a softball doubleheader Monday night.
BLHS claimed a 7-2 victory in the opener before winning the nightcap by a 9-0 score.
In the first game Bonner led 2-0 after a hit by Nancy DeLeon started the scoring in the second inning. Bravettes pitcher Sadie Kelly held the Lady Bobcats in check until the sixth inning when they tied it at 2-2. The Bobcats then tacked on five runs in the seventh to seal the victory. Shelby Pierce took the win on the mound for the Lady 'Cats.
In between games, Bonner Springs honored its senior class of Kelly, Chelsea Crouch, Wendy DeLeon and Ashlee Espinoza. They received commemorative softballs, gifts and flowers on the field as parents and friends clapped.
In the second game Basehor held a 3-0 lead going into the top of the sixth inning. The players shouted, "Let's bat around" before the inning started. Not only did they bat around, they sent a total of 11 hitters to the plate and scored six runs and made the score
9-0. Chelsey Patton accounted for three RBI's on a mammoth home run that sailed over the center field fence. Pierce shutout the Braves and allowed only five hits.
