Tonganoxie man pleads no contest to false reporting charge; agrees to pay restitution
A Tonganoxie man pleaded no contest to a charge of falsely reporting that an intruder shot him last July.
On Friday, 24-year-old Johnathan D. Wilkerson was in the Leavenworth County Justice Center to make his plea.
Wilkerson will be sentenced at 10 a.m. Dec. 19 in Leavenworth County District Court.
Wilkerson also agreed to pay $780 in restitution in connection with the false report.
On July 11, Wilkerson told Tonganoxie police that he had been shot by a 5-foot-10 black man wearing a white T-shirt who had broken into his stepfather's Tonganoxie home.
The report sparked a manhunt that included the Basehor Police Department, Leavenworth County Sheriff's Office and Kansas Highway Patrol troopers. Law enforcement searched for the suspect with dogs.
Wilkerson's non-lifethreatening injuries were treated and he was released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital the same day.
Another misdemeanor charge of criminal use of a financial card on Aug. 5, was dismissed.
