Clayton leads BLHS golfers to sixth place
Ashley Clayton shot a 9-hole score of 52 and led the Basehor-Linwood girls golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Spring Hill Invitational on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Paola Country Club.
The team’s other top golfers in the tournament were Morgan Richardson, 55; Nicole Vasquez, 62; and Amanda O’Bryan, 63.
While the course wasn’t the typical 18 holes, the team did show improvement in the tournament, coach Ben Chapman said.
“I have been impressed with the play of our upperclassmen,” Chapman said. “Ashley and Morgan are continuing to improve.”
The Bobcats shot a 232 as a team and competed against players from eight other schools.
The combined team of De Soto and Mill Valley shot 192 to win the tournament. Osage City shot 217 and finished in second place. Santa Fe Trail finished third with a 219. Jeff West shot 225 and finished in fourth place. Gardner-Edgerton shot 228 to finish in fifth place. Basehor-Linwood finished in sixth place. Spring Hill finished with a 240. Piper also competed in the tournament, but did not field a complete team.
Chapman said one of his goals is helping his young golfers improve their mental game this season.
“We’re continuing to work on our focus at practice and remembering to stay positive,” Chapman said.
The Bobcats have a busy schedule with three tournaments this week, starting with the Bobcat Invitational at Falcon Lakes on Oct. 9.
“We’re looking forward to finishing the season strong,” Chapman said.
