Basehor police, firefighters honored at annual banquet
The Basehor PRIDE groups presented the 15th Annual Firefighter and Police Officer Appreciation Banquet on Sunday, Oct. 12, at Basehor Elementary School.
Firefighters, police officers and their families were treated to a lunch made up of various dishes provided by several local organizations and individuals including the Basehor Chamber of Commerce, the Basehor Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Basehor Lions Club, the city of Basehor, Kiwanis Club, 4-H clubs, boys and girls scout troops and Dreams Come True, along with a performance by the Basehor-Linwood Gold Quartet.
Basehor Police Chief Lloyd Martley presented officer Greg Hallgrimson with the Officer of the Year award and officer Mike Joslyn was also recognized for his work in an aggravated burglary incident earlier this year in Basehor.
Fairmount Township Fire Department Chief Jeff Theno presented the Firefighter of the Year award to Capt. Tony Turner.
Assistant Fire Chief for Sherman Township Fire Department, Dale Box, along with the rest of the department surprised Fire Chief Dan Tallman with the Firefighter of the Year award.
Stranger Township Fire Department Chief Bert Dunham awarded firefighter Mike Henre with the Firefighter of the Year award.
Fairmount Township firefighters Lt. Kenny Magaha, Nick Verbenec, Travis Inlow and Basehor police officer Jason Corey also received the Lifesaver Award for helping an electrocution victim earlier this year.
