Mandela cohort to speak at KCKCC

A South African freedom fighter who was incarcerated with Nelson Mandela and other apartheid activists on Robben Island in South Africa will speak next week at Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Eddie Daniels will shed light on the racial and political issues of those 15 years in a free program from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, in the Performing Arts Center on the KCKCC campus at 7250 State Ave. A reception will follow at which time Daniels’ autobiography, “There and Back: Robben Island 1964-1979” will be on sale for $20.

A member of the Liberal Party of South Africa before becoming a founding member of the African Resistance Movement (ARM), Daniels was arrested and detained for 92 days in 1964 before being sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
