October 21, 2008
A man whom sheriff’s officers had been searching for in connection with a burglary Oct. 7 was found dead Oct. 11 .
Acording to Leavenworth County Sheriff Dave Zoellner, the man, who was 47 and from McLouth, was thought to have committed suicide as multiple pills were found at the scene, and a note was found indicating he planned to take his own life.
Someone found the man about 7 p.m. Saturday in a wooded area near 243rd and Dempsey Road, a few miles northwest of Tonganoxie.
Zoellner said a burglary of about $5,000 in jewelry, money and tools was reported Oct. 7 on Dempsey Road. The sheriff said the man was identified the next day and his office obtained a search warrant for the vehicle he was driving, which belonged to the man’s girlfriend, Zoellner said.
The stolen items were seized Wednesday, Oct. 8 from the vehicle, which was abandoned east of 235th and Dempsey.
Zoellner said his office is waiting for toxicology results to determine the man’s cause of death.
