Kaw Valley League Football Report: Week Eight
Friday is judgment day for the Kaw Valley League.
After weeks of waiting, the football league championship finally will be decided.
Lansing and Mill Valley square off at 7 p.m. Friday at MVHS in a game that will be televised live on Metro Sports. The Lions (8-0) and Jaguars (7-1) already have secured berths in the Class 5A state playoffs. Now they must decide who is the district champion, as well as who will win the league.
More than just a spotlight game is at stake this week, however. Playoff spots are on the line for numerous KVL clubs. So far, three have punched their tickets to the playoffs. In addition to Lansing and Mill Valley in Class 5A, Bishop Ward is the first 4A school to lock up a postseason berth. It is 2-0 in its district and has a hefty point cushion and head-to-head tiebreaker that have locked up the district championship.
If Basehor-Linwood beats Piper at 7 p.m. today, the Bobcats will be back in the playoffs. If not, Piper or Tonganoxie will advance. In other districts, Turner and Perry-Lecompton are fighting for bids. Both can lock up a berth with a victory.
