4 Bonner squads compete at tournament
The inaugural Bonner Springs-Turner sixth- and seventh-grade volleyball tournament took place Saturday at the Bonner Springs community center.
Three teams from Turner and one from Bonner Springs advanced to the semifinals, and two from Turner made it to the finals.
Thirty-six players from Bonner Springs competed in the tournament.
The Bonner Springs Purple Panthers were the top performing local squad as they made a run to the semifinals. Team members were Cheyenne Cook, Amber Cox, Airyana Fox, Madison Howard, Morgan Nichols, Kiah Van Hoose, Ashtyn Wells, Kelsey Wheller and Bailey Weide. They were coached by Pauline Nichols.
The Bonner Springs Red Raiders included Jessica Christensen, Maressa Garcia, Jalisa James, Jazmine Langley, Kaylee Mather, Alejandra Ochoa and Paige Pruitt. They were coached by Lauren Ozburn.
Dawn Jackson coached the Bonner Springs Yellow Jackets. The team included Zoe Flaspohler, Niyah Hightower, Julianne Jackson, Hannah Joiner, Tiara Johnson, Stevee Leiker, Emma Murrugarra, Faith Seaton, Madison Stumbough and Valerie Torres.
Nicki McGinnis coached the Bonner Springs Jayhawks. Her team included Kailey Bender, Hannah Fehlhafer, Carlie Holmes, Kennedy Jerome, Elisabeth Morris, Bridget Rittinghouse, Courtney Roush, Gabrielle Rye, Alley Washburn and Brittany White.
