- 10 years ago on Sept. 3, 1998, Greg Weber was the winner of the Marion Vaughn Community Service Award during the Tiblow Days celebration. The Bonner Beautiful Commission won the centennial trophy for having the best historic entry in the parade and the Bonner Springs Senior Citizens won the mayor’s trophy.

- I did not support the war, but I have never failed to support those who fight there. I did not support the war for a number of reasons: the intervention seemed impulsive, a knee-jerk reaction to horrific events and an intervention that should have been discussed more thoroughly by Congress, not the decision of one or two men; it is a war that would wreck havoc in the lives of not only soldiers but their families as well.

- Through the years, I’d covered high school sports for the Chieftain, so when Clausie Smith took over as publisher, he asked me to cover girls sports. Since I had a granddaughter that would be playing, I told him I would be happy to take over girls sports, which didn’t get started until 1976.
