Northern League title up for grabs

September 11, 2008

The Kansas City T-Bones baseball team dropped a 7-6 decision to the Gary SouthShore RailCats Tuesday night in the first game of the best-of-five Northern League Championship Series at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Christian Guerrero belted two home runs for SouthShore in the victory.

Kansas City took a lead in the first inning as it plated three runs. Jim Fasano crushed a three-run homer that also plated Aharon Eggleston and Ken Harvey.

SouthShore scored twice in the top of the second, but a solo homer by Neb Brown in the bottom of the inning gave the T-Bones a 4-2 advantage.

The RailCats got a leadoff single by Eric Blakeley in the third inning. Tanner Townsend followed with a walk. Both scored on a homer by Guerrero and SouthShore took a 5-3 lead.

Guerrero's second blast, a two-run shot in the top of the fifth, gave the RailCats their biggest lead at 7-6.

Kansas City scored twice in the bottom of the fifth on run-scoring singles by Eggleston and Rob Watson, but that was as close as the T-Bones got.

The series was set to resume Wednesday night. The game didn't finish in time to meet the press deadline, but results can be found online at tbonesbaseball.com.

Game three will take place at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 at SouthShore. Games four and five will be played, if necessary, on Sept. 13 and 14 at SouthShore. The Sept. 13 game would begin at 6 p.m. and the Sept. 14 game would be at 2 p.m.
