A rural Tonganoxie man is still in custody after a possible shooting that occurred around 12:30 p.m. Thursday at his home in the 18400 block of 178th Street.

The 38-year-old suspect was arrested after David Keller, 34, Kansas City, Kan., told officers that he got into an altercation with the suspect and was shot at while he was leaving the suspect's residence.

Keller left the residence and contacted the police. When deputies arrived at Keller's location, Keller said there were several people, drugs and weapons inside the suspect's home. Sheriff's deputies and about 20 Kansas Highway Patrol officers surrounded the residence to get the suspect out of the home. Officers were not aware that the suspect had already left the home before officers arrived. There was nobody else in the home.

Deputies made contact with the suspect after getting his cell phone number from Keller. Officers made contact with the suspect and went to his location at Kansas Highway 32 and Leavenworth County Road 3. The suspect was then taken into custody for questioning along with Keller.

Undersheriff Ron Cranor said based on information given to the Sheriff's Office from Keller, deputies got a warrant to search the suspect's home.

Officers found drugs including methamphetamines and marijuana, along with several firearms and a ballistic vest.

Cranor said the suspect was arraigned this morning, but no formal charges have been filed.

Keller was held overnight, but released in the morning.

Cranor said Keller's vehicle is being inspected to determine if the damage on the vehicle was actually caused from a bullet.
