Q: The Basehor-Linwood School District conducted enrollment differently this year, with an all-school enrollment at the high school. What was the reasoning behind the enrollment change?

A: We have five schools, and they are miles away from each other. If a parent has four kids at four different schools, they might not be able to get all that done in one day. This way, it’s all at one location. It makes it easier and more convenient for parents.

Q: The district sent a letter home to parents this summer explaining the new enrollment process. What kind of feedback did you get from the letter?

A: We didn’t hear much from the letter except to confirm the times and days.

Q: How do you think the process went at the high school?

A: It’s going very well. We’ve had a lot of positive feedback. People seem to be pleased with having it all at one location. We expect there to be glitches, but we’ll just improve that for next year.

Q: Was anything else different about this year’s enrollment?

A: It’s always been two days. Usually we have one day from noon to 8 p.m. at all the schools and one day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year, both days were noon to 8 p.m., and one day was all schools at the high school. The noon to 8 p.m. schedule works better for parents who work during the day.

Q: Do you think the district will use this enrollment format next year?

A: We’re hoping to move toward an online process where parents can download and print all their documents at home. That way, they can just come to the building, check the forms, pay and they’re done. This is the first step toward making that happen. It’s again about us helping out the parents. We hope to have most of those documents online next year.
