First City Festival introduces 5K race
A celebration of Leavenworth’s historic firsts wouldn’t be complete without a first of it’s own: a 5K race. The First City Festival will include such an event for the first time on Saturday, Sept. 12, with the 5K Run to the River.
The race, presented by the Leavenworth Parks and Recreation Department, takes runners through the recently completed Three Mile Creek Trail.
The race will kick off with a short dedication ceremony at 7:45 a.m. The women’s race begins at 8 a.m., followed by the men’s race at 9 a.m. and a kids race at 9:45 a.m.
Registration forms are available at the Riverfront Community Center, 123 Esplanade, in downtown Leavenworth, or online at lvks.org. Deadline to register is 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, in person, or midnight if registering online. Cost is $25, or $35 the morning of the race. Race-day registration will take place from 5:30 to 7 a.m.
Race participants will receive a T-shirt (early registration only), and a free pancake breakfast following the race.
