Letters: Sad about Santa
To the editor:
What else is there to say? Our family has always started the holiday season off right with a trip to the Ag Hall of Fame to visit Santa in the Old Depot and to take a train ride on the Santa Express around the property. My 10-year-old will be extremely disappointed that he won’t be able to stand and watch the blacksmith making horseshoes until Mom tells him she’s cold, and we need to head over to the general store for cookies and hot cocoa.
In the last seven years, we have only missed one year at the Ag Hall — and that was last year while I was home on bed rest awaiting the arrival of our own “Santa” baby. My family and I have been talking about bringing our newest to the Ag Hall of Fame since before Halloween, and I can only say “bah humbug” upon learning that there will be no Santa Express this year.
I realize in the time of money crunches that cuts have to be made, and I know that perhaps the cost of this event outweighs the income. But for this family, it will certainly be a sad Christmas season without our festivities beginning at Santa Express. Where will I take my 1-year-old to see Santa that isn’t commercialized and ridden with screaming children now?
